Wilderness & Outdoor First Aid Kits

When people go outdoors these days there are more choices than ever for activities. Add in new extreme sports and adventurers go further and travel more remotely than ever before.  But from a safety standpoint, getting injured in the wilderness is also quite different than a quick call to 911 or a short ride to the local emergency room. Unlike what people see on TV, helicopters and wilderness medics just don't swoop in minutes after you call on your cell phone. With a serous injury in the back-county, once the authorities know you need help, it could be 1 - 2 days before they can get a team to your location. Do you have the proper camping, survival and wilderness medical kit to keep things stable for yourself, a family member or stranger you found in this situation?

 We are not advocating for an extreme (Think Rambo) wilderness survivalist mentality, but just common sense planning before any camping trip or boating outing. That means having several things:  the right survival gear, adequate first aid supplies and wilderness first aid training. Wilderness first aid and emergency care is a specialty of our company. One of the co-founders was an EMT, a rare Wilderness EMT and a Wilderness First Aid instructor for many years.   So, in our opinion, not having basic first aid training and a good outdoor/wilderness or activity-based first aid kit is just not a smart option. If you are building your outdoor skills, we recommend taking advanced first aid and/or wilderness first aid classes.
